Creative and sustainable: the beMatrix “Think like a bee” installation
Striking hexagonal aluminium structures and alternating fabrics in warm yellow and orange hues: every display element used in the “Think like a bee – exhibiting in harmony with nature” installation was created to evoke the industriousness of bees, their extraordinary organizational skills and the vital role they play for our planet. Indeed, it was the “expertise” of these insects that served as the inspiration for this installation concept. It was realised by Remigio Architects, designed by Luca Remigio and Francesco Forcellini in partnership with ABS Group using the beMatrix system.
A perfectly balanced system
The “Think like a bee” project has been installed within the Milan headquarters of Interexpo, a business which specializes in outfitting trade fairs and events. The different elements were created by combining beMatrix aluminium frames and fabric coverings: this display system is among the most sustainable on the market, which is why the parallel with the world of bees and hives is even more apt. Just as honeycombs are networks of interlocking hexagonal cells, constructed to meet the needs of the bees for which they’re home, optimize their work, and adapt to environmental conditions, so the beMatrix system and the materials used allow for optimizing installations and reducing their environmental impact.
Limitless creativity
In addition to its advantages in terms of sustainability, the “Think like a bee” display boasts a strong visual impact and high aesthetic value. From the hexagonal frames that symbolize honeycomb, the 5-metre-high tower with opening door, and the walk-in structure featuring customized joints that enable the creation of completely non-standard angles and spaces: each installation showcases the infinite set-up possibilities the beMatrix system offers.

ABS Group and Remigio Architects: shared objectives
The installation of “Think like a bee” is the result of the long-consolidated partnership with Remigio Architects, a Milan-based architecture studio that specializes in exhibit design. Like ABS Group, the studio has always paid great attention to the materials and environmental footprint of the exhibition sector, which is why it chose to start designing exhibitions with the beMatrix system in 2021. It was a pivotal moment that brought with it two advantages: simplicity of design offered by beCAD – the online professional technical design platform – and reduced environmental impact brought about by the use of recycled, recyclable and long life-cycle materials.
“The versatility of the beMatrix system has enabled us to adapt it to meet differing design needs and make it coherent with the global design of our installations and displays. We have thus been able to create innovative cutting-edge solutions, whilst maintaining our focus on creating the unique experiences and sensations we wanted visitors to experience. Plus, we were able to create installations that could be reused countless times, and which reduce waste, minimize the environmental impact, and above all maintain our commitment to eco-sustainability – a commitment we undertook some time ago now to the planet and future generations.”
