ABS Group caption-lightboxes at the Egyptian Museum in Turin
In 2024, the Egyptian Museum in Turin, the most important in the world after Cairo, celebrated its 200th anniversary. It marked this significant milestone with reopening of the Chapel of Ellesiya, the oldest rock temple in Nubia, donated to Italy by the Egyptian government in 1970.
ABS Group had the honour of taking part in refurbishment of the Chapel by creating the structure that serves as the perimeter lectern and contains illustrations and information about the temple’s hieroglyphs.
Illuminated customised captions
The Chapel of Ellesiya was refurbished thanks to important research work by a group of Egyptologists and curators. And even the structure that houses the captions was the result of careful focused study: every single component made by ABS Group was in fact developed in collaboration with the museum team, in order to maximise the chapel’s details and make the audiovisual installation an engaging, educational experience.
Enhancing the museum narrative
Captions and explanatory panels are key to enhancing the museum narrative. In addition to its role as a source of information, the lectern-structure created for the Chapel of Ellesiya also has aesthetic value and visual impact, attracting visitors’ and inviting them to read. Its composition in detail:
- A powder-coated solid steel structure that elegantly supports every detail;
- A triangular profile, designed to slope the lightboxes at the correct angle for a unique visual effect;
- Bespoke lightboxes, with double-slope angles and dimmable lighting to bring the hieroglyphics to life with diffuse enveloping light;
- Sublimation-print canvases, which tell the story in vivid colours and details, for an immersive visual experience.
