Mosaico. Codice italico di un’arte senza tempo

Magister Art
Exhibition on textile architecture

Produced by the General Directorate for Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and realized by Magister Art, the exhibition is dedicated to some of the most extraordinary examples of Italian mosaic art. Thanks to the network of Embassies, Consulates and Italian Institutes of Culture, the exhibition opened its world tour in 2023 in Santiago de Chile and then landed in Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand and Brazil and continue with further venues in the American and Asian continents until June 2025.

“Mosaic. Italic code of a timeless art” is an immersive multimedia exhibition, divided into seven stations, magical rooms whose walls are covered with infinite wonders thanks to a continuous alternation of video projections. To present the polychrome floor mosaics of Villa Romana del Casale di Piazza Armerina in the province of Enna, a custom L-shaped structure was produced for the video projections. The structure was made of beMatrix profiles covered with a projection fabric in the horizontal part that rests on the ground, while, in the vertical part, with Dibond panels that amplify and reflect light. Particularly suggestive is the station dedicated to the Underwater Archaeological Park of Baia that visitors can discover only “diving” and taking off the sand with their hands in the silence of the seabed. To recreate this “immersion effect“, an aluminium and fabric structure has been created with a circular opening in the upper part through which it is possible to observe the video projections on a back wall. Reflective foils inside the hole create a glare of light and images as it would be on the surface of water.

The choice to use aluminium and fabric structures, combined with different technologies and multimedia supports, has perfectly responded to the need to create a strong visual impact fitting that adapts to the spaces in which it is housed.
