More than 100 colored tapestries for the Procuratie Vecchie in Venice

A sequence of faces on brightly colored backgrounds decorate the façade of the Procuratie Vecchie overlooking Piazza San Marco in Venice. The temporary installation, designed by Migliore + Servetto Architects, was realized by ABS Group on the occasion of the inauguration of The Human Safety Net, the Assicurazioni Generali Foundation in support of vulnerable families with young children and the inclusion of refugees.

#TheChallenge

The goal of the project was to make over 100 tapestries and an out-of-scale “The Human Safety Net” logo in fabric for the Procuratie Vecchie in Venice. The project included the design of ad hoc solutions to fix the fabrics on the ancient hooks on the window frames.

#ContemporaryTapestries

The project by Migliore + Servetto Architects was based on the contemporary reinterpretation of the ancient historical tapestries by Generali. So they have been reproduced in the same size and hooked in the same way.

#FabricsandTechnologies

The fabric chosen to make the tapestries was a 400 g double-sided satinette fabric. The use of latest generation printing technologies has guaranteed high quality and color fidelity, contributing to create the wow effect of the installation.

#BecauseWeCare

Tailoring: this is one of the key words that have distinguished this project. Each element was custom-made and the maximum attention to detail. The crates for transporting the tapestries were also produced for the occasion, to protect the fabrics and easily reach their destination in the historic center of Venice.

The project

After 500 years of history and an accurate restoration site led by David Chipperfield, at the beginning of April the Procuratie Vecchie, the iconic complex in Piazza San Marco that runs from the Clock Tower to the Correr Museum, opened to the public.

Three entire floors of the building have become the headquarters of The Human Safety Net, the Assicurazioni Generali Foundation born in the name of inclusion, innovation and sustainability.

More than 100 colorful tapestries, designed by Migliore + Servetto Architects and made by ABS Group, were installed to celebrate the inauguration of the Foundation.
